Hope everyone is doing well. I’m trying to catch up on blog reading, as well as replying to comments on my own blog, but it’s been challenging of late. So please know that if I normally read your blog, and I haven’t commented lately, I’ll get back to you as soon as I can, I promise!

I’m not doing a whole lot other than working and hockey-momming these days, although I am continuing to run four times a week. A lot of times, when I’m going to bed Monday night, I think to myself that maybe I’ll skip my Tuesday morning easy run, but somehow I always manage to drag myself out of bed and go out there. 🙂  This past Monday, I had a great three mile run, although I think my Garmin was a bit generous with my first mile.

That’s a good pace for me!  However, it had me hitting a mile way earlier than the real “mile marker” I know of on my road, but I still felt good when I was done!  I also managed to have a decent weigh-in, if not ideal.

It’s a .8 pound loss, and while I’m still 9-10 pounds above ideal, losing is better than gaining!

I’m only running 3 miles on my three weekday runs, and on Saturday, I do whatever long run fits in my schedule. Two weeks ago I ran seven, and last Saturday before JJ’s team golf outing I ran 6.2 (because my route turned out to be 6.15, and well, why not run a random 10K?).  This coming Saturday, I have another golf outing, for Jamie’s team. (Did I mention that I don’t know anyone who golfs, and I don’t golf myself? This past Saturday was my first time ever on a golf course.) This one starts really early, so I’m going to have to get my ass out of bed about 5 AM and run, and I suspect I’ll be doing only about five.  Jamie and I have a 10K next weekend, and there is another special surprise at that race that I’ll save until my race report. 🙂 The whole family is going up the day before, which just so happens to be my birthday 😀 , and we’re going to eat too much chicken in Frankenmuth and then stay overnight so we don’t have to make the long drive to the race in the morning. I should probably get a hotel reservation for Saturday night at some point, shouldn’t I? 😉

This morning when I was running, it was about 5:30 and of course dark. I made sure to wear a white shirt, and I had my headlamp and my pepper spray.  There was no moon, and the stars were amazing.  One of the biggest benefits of living out the country is that there is very little light pollution, and when the stars are out, they’re a sight to behold.

Whenever I look up at the sky in my neighborhood and see all those stars, I’m reminded of something that happened many years ago, in 1990, to be exact. My sister was attending community college, and in her science class, she was given an assignment to drive to a place where there was minimal light pollution so that she could record the stars that she saw.   Because it’s fun to look at old pictures, here’s a shot of her and I at my 19th birthday, in October 1990.

Ohemgee, what is up with my hair?!

Anyway, Monica and I got in the car that Saturday night and started driving down a main road going south. We kept driving for what seemed to us was forever, until we got to a spot where there was a party store on the corner, out in the middle of nowhere. We decided that we had driven far enough, and that that seemed like a good spot with very little light pollution, far away from the city. I remember getting out of the car and thinking how far away we were from “civilization.” We recorded the stars that she saw, and then we got in our car and drove back to the suburbs.

Now flash forward about 11 years, when my husband and I moved to the town we live in now. We were bike riding down one of the two roads near where we live, and we came to an intersection a little over a mile down the road from our house.  We decided to stop at the party store to get a pop, and as we walked up to it, I had a sudden flashback…it was the same party store that my sister and I had stopped at 11 years earlier.  If I had just turned right and driven a little over a mile, I would’ve been looking at my future home, the place where I would  enjoy a happy marriage and even do my own little bit of farming, all while raising two very active boys.

Oh that is neat! Great job on the loss this week and the continued running! Hope you have a wonderful birthday weekend!

I love those neat little coincidences! I found out recently that my husband and I used to hang out at the same arcade back in the day. I often wondered if I met him back then but I sure as heck can’t recall! LOL
