Social Weekend

I took two days off last week while my husband was off, attempting to kill Bambi’s mother. (And not succeeding, hooray! I’m not opposed to deer hunting…I just don’t want all the icky venison in my freezer. 😉 )

On Thursday, I volunteered at the school book fair and then got my teeth cleaned. Such fun! 😛  I had plans all day Saturday that revolved around hockey (what a surprise), and I knew I wouldn’t be able to get my usual Saturday long run in.  That was another reason I took Friday off…so I could run while the kids were in school.  Thursday night, I remembered that my friend Katie usually does a long run on Fridays, and after a few quick texts, we had a plan to meet up for an easy 8-miler.

When I got up, I wondered if Katie was still interested in running.

Brrr…not as cold as my super-windy 12° run from that past Tuesday, but chilly nonetheless.  When I got to Katie’s house, she joked that if she hadn’t already made the plans with me, she would’ve totally done her long run on the treadmill, ha ha!  By the time we set out, it was up to 19°, and the sun was out, so that helped warm us up.  There was almost no wind, so that was  a real blessing, too!   The paths were snowy, but not icy.

The views over the water were gorgeous.

My goal was to keep a pace in the 11:20s, and to be able to actually converse with Katie through the whole thing.  I have trouble keeping up a conversation on a run, even at a pace that slow, but I was proud of myself for running the whole way, and for being able to keep talking all the way til the end. 🙂  My pace ended up being 11:29–still in the 11:20s, right? 😉  We took a post-run picture after we stopped.

Unfortunately, while we were out, I lost Katie’s water bottle that I had borrowed from her. 🙁  When we got to the car and realized it was done, we started to walk back along the part of the path we didn’t come back on (we’d done almost a complete out-and-back and should have seen it if it had fallen on the part we doubled up on).  Katie offered to run the path (since she hadn’t exactly worked up a sweat at my 11:20ish pace for those 8 miles!), and I gratefully let her, since I actually was tired. Here’s a shot of her taking off…

Sadly, she didn’t find it, but at least she burned a few more calories. 🙂  Meanwhile, I arrived home to find another unpleasant surprise.

Argh.  Again with the blood on the brand new shoes!  I forgot to put a band-aid over my toe that rubs up against the nail of the toe next to it (even when it’s trimmed!).

Saturday, JJ had a double-header–in Flint and Bay City! (That’s 1.5 and 2 hours from us, respectively…one is on the way to the other, at least.)  We ended up taking a bus!

I’m not a big fan of busses (the control freak in me does not like giving up control of my road trip), but we had a good time!  Lunch did not turn out well (I won’t bore you with my saga, but suffice it to say that I was glad I’d brought along a cooler with the fixings for a chicken salad, which I finally got to eat at about 5:30pm!).  But I did have a flight of wine.

Not the best wines, but at least I got something for lunch. 😉   JJ and I had fun with our friends.

And I was greatly amused by the fact that the lights overhead reflected in such a way that my son’s jersey number appeared in my wine. 😉 Can you see it?

And best of all–the boys won both games!  My little defenseman actually got several compliments from the other parents about his great playing.

Jamie’s team, meanwhile, was out in Howell with a teammate whose family was gracious enough to take him ALL DAY while I was with JJ.  (Remember, my dear husband was hunting.)  They lost by a goal, unfortunately, (and my son got two penalties!), but the following day, they had another game and played great.  And Jamie only got one penalty in that game. 😛

Love that kid. 😉

So that was our weekend.  Despite the fact that I didn’t eat nearly as much as I expected (I’d planned for Saturday by saving up a lot of points, and then I ended up not eating much at all!), my weigh-in on Monday wasn’t what I’d hoped.

A .6 pound gain.  Sigh.  After months of being in the 115 range in the last year (comfortably), you can imagine that I’m very frustrated with my inability to even get close to 120!!  This week, I decided that it was time to do something different, if for no other reason than I’m sick of feeling like I’m depriving myself for nothing.  So, I’ve increased my Weight Watchers points to 29 from the standard 26.  I may hate myself for it next week, but I figured something needs to change, and with this being Thanksgiving week, it’s probably a good time to give myself a little leeway.  Wish me luck!

On a side note, when I ran with Katie last Friday, I remembered that that day (November 21) was the three-year anniversary of when I started my healthy journey–for the last time.  (Inspired by Katie, if you haven’t yet read the story.)  The road has not always been easy by any stretch, but I’m still healthier now than I was then–and I’ve run a bazillion miles in that time!! 😉 I laugh now when I think of what I would have said if someone had told me three years ago that I would run a full marathon.  Ha ha ha ha ha, I would have lost my mind at the thought!! And rolled on the floor laughing!!

That’s it for now.  Tomorrow morning, Jamie and I are doing the Detroit Turkey Trot, but I’m running 6 miles before we even leave, so I need to get to bed.  Thank you for reading! 🙂

Oh man, did you run the Turkey Trot? Seriously, I thought I saw you there but I was pretty sure you weren’t running it.

Love a fun weekend. Nice job on your cold run!
