I’m here. I’m weak, but I’m here.

How weak am I? I just had to look at the word “here” above three times to determine if it was supposed to be “here” or “hear.” The journalism minor’s ultimate fail.

I feel like such a life-slacker. I honestly can’t remember the last time a cold took me down so hard. Okay, technically, it wasn’t just “a cold,” or so the doctor said.  It was an “upper respiratory and sinus infection.”  But really, isn’t that just fancy doctor-talk for a cold? I don’t know, but all I know is that last Thursday, I actually agreed to a) go to a doctor and b) take medicine (two things I really hate).  I’ve been on this awful antibiotic since Thursday, and I hate it. It makes me sleepy and weak and it makes my tummy very unhappy. And all that just makes me cranky.

You know what else makes me cranky? The realization that I am less than two weeks away from running a freakin’ marathon.  Seriously, WTF?!????????????  I am so not feeling anywhere close to ready right now.  This sickness all started the day I ran 20 miles (4/4/15), which seems like some kind of poetic justice—all those activity points and I wasn’t even hungry. :/  The run was hard—hard, I tell you!—but at least I had company.

Katie came with me for 10 miles, and that helped pass the time. I ran four before she got there, and then 10 with her, but the last six were tough.

God, that’s a lot of running!!   In comparison to last year’s twenty-miler, my moving pace was actually much slower, but my overall time was a little less.

Who knows how or why these things happen?  But I did finish, at least. I then spent Saturday afternoon baking for the Easter breakfast at church, then Sunday we went to Easter service and helped serve the breakfast (the Youth Group was in charge).  I stayed upright long enough for a picture.

But then I went home and slept.  I skipped all three of my weekday training runs Monday-Wednesday, and ended up calling in sick Tuesday and Thursday.  Thursday is when I finally gave in and went to the doctor.  I did manage to run my final “pace” run on Friday after work, although it nearly killed me. For realz, dude. Four miles at pace in 20 mph sustained winds! Okay, only 2 of the miles were into the wind; the other two were like the best two miles ever because I was practically flying thanks to the wind at my back. I was so tired by that time, I really didn’t appreciate it, though.  And then we had a hockey game to go to.  Because of course Jamie had a hockey tournament All. Damn. Weekend.  That meant I spent a great deal of time coughing and hacking in very cold ice arenas all weekend.  Despite that, I still managed to run 8 miles on Saturday morning (it was supposed to be 12, but there was just no way).

As for the tournament, I didn’t take pictures for the first two games, but that just felt wrong (I’m not used to just sitting in the stands with nothing to do!), so I managed to snap a few shots in the last three games, although they weren’t great, nor were there many of them.  Luckily, my photography was not a reflection of the weekend, because although I was a miserable failure, the boys were not:

They did indeed win their championship game, and I actually bought a few pictures from the tournament photographer because I was caught up in the moment. 😉

I was actually rather disappointed with the photographer’s shots. He only got ONE action shot of Jamie, and he didn’t really do much to any of his shots post-process (what you see above is after I touched them up).  I swear, if I had a lens like his, I could do SO much better. 😛

At any rate, I did have a nice surprise on Saturday when JJ got home from his practice (my husband took him).  They came in the door and handed me this:

Awwww…that’s the nicest gift I’ve ever gotten for my pictures/DVDs.  They were made by the grandma of one of JJ’s teammates, because she was so thankful for all my efforts and she heard me say that I like chocolate chip cookies.  *sniff sniff*  It’s stuff like that that makes it all worthwhile. 🙂  I had several over of them the weekend, and although I had barely eaten all week (and was feeling super-skinny by Friday), it seems that the cookies helped stabilize my weight a little.

I didn’t weigh myself last week, but that’s a .6 pound loss from 2 weeks ago.  Dude, if only I had weighed myself Friday morning… 😉

Time for me to go rest some more.  Thank you so much for reading!!

You are going to crush your marathon! You needed to taper anyway, right? You’ve got this!

I like how you compare a sinus infection to a cold, yep pretty much the same thing. Much like a zit is the same thing as chicken pox!

At least you got sick now and not next week. It’s the small things, right?
