Calorie Counting – Week 5

Last weekend, Jamie (my oldest) had what I’m pretty sure was the busiest sports weekend he’s ever experienced: three hockey games and two football games in the span of 36 hours!  His school football team had two championship games on Saturday, but his hockey team also signed up for a last minute tournament for the same weekend! 😮  And Mom and Dad were in charge of schlepping him around Metro Detroit for it all. :p  But considering that our son had the chance to play on an NFL field and a Big 10 college hockey sheet of ice–all in the same weekend–we weren’t going to complain too much. 😉

But that’s for another post! (A very long post that will probably interest no one but me.)  For now, let’s talk about the health and fitness aspect of my weekend.  It started off Friday, when we had a hockey game in Chelsea.  Unfortunately, the game didn’t start until 9pm, and since our games typically last about 80 minutes (and then you have to give the coaches time to do their post-game talk, and then the kids have to get undressed), we didn’t get home until almost 11:30.  This was unfortunate, because we had to be out the door at 6:45am for the first of two football games on Saturday.  AND, since Saturdays are my long run days…that meant, if I wanted to get one in, I had to have it done by about 5:45am.  Not too appealing, huh?  Yeah, well, guess who got up at 4:20am and ran 6 miles…in the rain!

I swear, I don’t know what the hell is wrong with me sometimes. :p  It was a rough run, but I did it.  We were out the door on time, but unfortunately got stuck in a traffic jam due to an accident.  But that’s for another post.

After football in downtown Detroit, it was back on the road and out to Chelsea for another hockey game.  Then it was back home where we tried to convince Jamie to nap, but you can imagine how that went. 😉  Instead, we let him watch some TV and then it was back out the door and down to Monroe for our second football game of the day.  This one was for his school’s league championship (more about that in the next post).  My husband and I did get a nice surprise before the game…because he is an 8th grader and it’s his last year in the grade-school football league, they had 8th grade Parents’ Appreciation Night, and we got to go out on the field and have our names announced as his parents, and he even gave me carnation. 🙂

(Carnation not shown, ha ha!)  It was kind of funny, because they were reading them in alphabetical order, but they skipped him somehow, and we were left standing in the middle of the field on the 30 yard line by ourselves until they figured out that they’d skipped him.  By the time they finally called our names, we certainly had everyone’s attention, ha ha!

Then, we had more football, which, again, will be for another post.  After that was the annual post-championship bonfire at the head coach’s house, where I may or may not have had an excess amount of wine. 😉  And stayed out too late.  But you don’t need to worry about that. 😉

The next morning, we had yet another hockey game, and we had to be in Ann Arbor by 8am.  Ooooh, that was a tough morning.  But we made it, and after another great effort by my son, I decided to treat him to a rare breakfast out.  We drove around downtown Ann Arbor, trying to find a diner, but no luck.  We did, however, see some gorgeous fall foliage.

It was truly a perfect day for color in Southeast Michigan!  We eventually found a diner a little south of downtown.  I do love me a diner breakfast, and I splurged and got a veggie omelette with hashbrowns.

Yes, I also got a pancake on the side. Because I love pancakes AND hashbrowns!

With all that food, I was nervous about my weigh-in.  I was tired by the time I got home from all that craziness Sunday afternoon, and I ate more than I should have.  I ended up going pretty far over my calories on Sunday, which happens to be one of my two non-run days during the week.  This was my first week at 1300 calories per day (down from 1500), and I found that it was tough to keep within my goals when I don’t add in some extra exercise calories.  Here are my charts for the week.

You can see I’m doing better with the sodium, but that damn sugar still has me beat. :/   But on the bright side…

Woo hoo! That may only be a .8 pound loss, but it IS a loss, and more importantly, it marks the first time I’ve been under 124 since June 1st! That’s a pretty good feeling. 🙂

I’m down 3 pounds in the five weeks since I started calorie counting. That’s certainly not a spectacular amount, but I also haven’t been overly restrictive, either. I only have about 3.5 pounds to go to hit my “new” goal, so I think it makes sense to stick with this plan. As long as I’m losing, I’m not going to complain, and there are a LOT of things about calorie counting that I find easier than Weight Watchers.  Hopefully I can continue this slow but steady progress!

Thanks for reading! The next post will be full of drama and pictures, but for now, you’ll just have to enjoy these two sneak peaks. 🙂

I love that your weight was 123.4! I’m a weird numbers girl and that made me smile. Getting ready for basketball here in Indiana! I will be running all over the state soon.
