First “Real” Lacrosse Game

IMG_3496-2We had our first lacrosse game on Saturday. Yes, I know I posted about Jamie’s “first” lacrosse game last month, but that was an exhibition at U of M stadium, and it really didn’t count.  Which is good, because his team got beat 20-0. 😉

No, this week’s game was an actual league game, against a team that was a little more comparable to the kids on Jamie’s team. I got up early to run seven miserable miles before the game.

Oh, MAF training, how I hate you. Seven miles at a 16-minute pace is pretty horrifying to me. Hell, I ran my last marathon (26 miles) at an 11:30. :p But Katie swears I’ll get better. ;).

While the run pretty much sucked, all the walking I had to do allowed me to take some nice pictures.

I love that we’re getting close to summer and the sun is rising earlier, so I can actually see it come up without having to get up at 5 AM. (Not that I don’t get up that early during the week, or even earlier…)

After a shower and a delightful cup of cappuccino, I packed up Jamie and his lacrosse bag and we were on our way.  The team played well, but lost 10-5. That’s way better than 20-0, though! 🙂 Jamie played every position, and had tons of fun.

He even managed to get a few shots on goal…one of which came SOOO close, but  hit the post! Argh!!

Lacrosse is definitely a different sport than hockey…the field is BIG, and taking pictures in bright glaring sunlight is not all it’s cracked up to be. :p After the game, I was pretty darn tired, and my iPhone step count for the day was really high!

I was so tired, in fact, that later that night, instead of having the dessert I so richly deserved after running 7 miles and doing all that walking around the field, instead, I went to be at 8:45pm!! I slept until 7am the next morning, so I guess I needed it. I’ve been getting up earlier to get my 3 miles in each day at a much slower pace (like 4:30am!!), so it seems that it finally caught up with me. :p

Sunday afternoon, I accompanied my sister and nephew on his senior photo shoot. I convinced my sister to let my friend/family photographer Dawn do them, and I got to act as her “assistant” to hold the reflectors.

Lol!  I can’t wait to see the final results. I know they’re going to be awesome!

Monday morning, I did a speed work run. It was both hard and fabulous, because, although running fast is still difficult for me, the ability to actually run hard is now something I look forward to. It beats jog-walking for sure!!  I busted my tail and ended up with a great run.

It was definitely hard, but I felt SO good when I was done!!

And then I weighed myself.

Boo-ya! Back at goal! Right on the nose, too! :p One thing I did differently this week was to lower my calorie goal by 100 on the days I do the MAF runs. I mentioned last week that I don’t feel like I’m really “earning” all the calories my Garmin gives me for those slow run-walks, so I decided to knock off about 1/3 of them in an effort to get a more realistic calorie target during the MAF training. Considering I lost 2.2 pounds this week, it seems like it might have worked!

That’s it for now. No second post this week, because I have a lot to do between now and Friday. We have a hockey tournament AND a lacrosse showcase this weekend, and on top of that, I have a friend coming into town to go to a Tigers game. 😮 Wish me luck!!

Thanks for reading!

WOO HOO look at that weigh-in! BOOM!

Love the run pictures. At least you can find a bright side to the heart rate method of running. Fingers crossed it really helps you!

You are awesome Steph at keeping on that MAF training! I admire your will power and determination! I’m still curious about it but haven’t invested in a heart rate monitor and it seems like it would ruin my social runs on mon/fri/sat!
