Triple Temptations

Not the best of weeks for me.

IMG_2377Oops.  I fell victim to a succession of temptations that were too much to overcome, including:

  • Thursday donuts – my boss is great, and loves to bring treats to the office, usually donuts.  For some unknown reason, he always picks Thursdays–the day I don’t run! 😮  He came in this past Thursday and made sure to walk by my desk with the box, saying, “I brought donuts.”  To which I replied, “Of course you did…it’s Thursday.” 😛  Yes, I had one. It was good, but the memory of the yumminess is dimmed by my weigh-in.
  • St. Patrick’s Day potluck – our office does this every year, and for reasons I won’t go into here, the event revolves around both Irish food and pork. (It’s a long story.)  I actually had a stomach ache Friday morning and was perfectly fine turning down the food (especially the pork, which would not sit well), but later in the afternoon, I discovered that someone had brought in a tin of cookies, and not just any cookies.  They were special ordered from a place called Carol’s Cookies.  I have no idea who brought cookies from Illinois to our party, but holy God, they were so good.  And huge!!  Turning them down was not within my power.  They are expensive, and I feel honored that someone cared about me…er, the employees in our department…so much. 😉
  • Girls’ night out!  My BFF Tonia and I went to see Beauty and Beast on Saturday night, and of course we had to go out for dinner and drinks (well, a drink) first.

We had a great time, and the movie was wonderful.  (Check out my Disney posts from December 2012 to see how much I love Beauty and the Beast).  For dinner, I tried to go easy:  I had a grilled chicken salad with a cup of French onion soup, some bread, and a glass of wine.

I felt like those were good choices, especially since I’d run 9 miles that morning and had plenty of points available.  I made the mistake of not tracking during the meal, though, and that got me in trouble, because in my mind I had so many points, of course I could split half of a dessert with Tonia.

As it turns out–I went over my points!  I had to dip into my weeklies (which, by the way, went down from 28 to 21 with my weigh in two weeks ago!), which I never do.  So now I’m back to 124, and, ironically, I’m suddenly back to 28 weeklies.  How will that help me lose weight??
Oh well, you live and learn.  I’d like to say that I’ll be better this week, but I’m running into two obstacles: 1) my activity is greatly decreased as I prepare for race day on Sunday and 2) I am damn well going to eat my fill Sunday night after running 13 miles! 😛  That will definitely put a damper on my Monday weigh-in. In fact, I might break my own rule and postpone it until Tuesday. 😉
By the way, we got the playoff weekend hockey schedule on Tuesday, and if JJ’s team does make the championship game (and we hope they do!), it will be at 11:15 on Sunday morning.  My race begins at 8am, and if I can finish in 2:10-2:15 as I hope, then that’ll give me around an hour to make it to the game (which is, luckily, not far away).  Would I be able to get a shower in in that time frame?  Hmmm…that’s debatable. 😉
This morning was my last run before the race: a nice, easy 30-minute workout in the cold (which turned out to be 35 minutes because I wanted to get to 3 total miles).   Now I have two days off to rest and try not to overeat! 😮  Tonight is Jamie’s first official high school lacrosse game.  They had a scrimmage earlier this week that I got to photograph.

He is very excited about lacrosse; as for me, I’m excited about taking pictures, but more excited for warmer weather!   (My hands were freezing by the end of that scrimmage!)
Thanks for reading!  The next time you hear from me, I will (hopefully) have half marathon number eight under my belt. Not bad for a girl who once said she wouldn’t be able to run a quarter mile without passing out! 😉
