And Here Comes Summer

Indeed, summer has arrived, and with it…

…the start of my summer weight gain.  Uggghh, I’m so frustrated. I know I tend to gain weight in the summer, like a lot of people, but this summer I’m about 4 pounds heavier than I was at the beginning of last summer. Gaining “a few pounds” on top of that just does not bode well.

And yet, I find myself lacking motivation. I like summer, and I like eating summer food. I know that should mean a lot of vegetables and fruits, but it also means holiday barbecues and graduation party fare. 😮 I won’t lie; I have a hard time resisting that stuff!

Actually, I have a hard time resisting a lot of food. Monday, I had to take JJ to the dentist because he has an adult tooth coming in that is being crowded by the baby tooth that hasn’t come out yet. After the appointment, at which we discussed the potential of orthodontia in his future (*sob*), he and I realized that the local bakery was still open, and we decided to stop and try one of the cookies everyone around here raves about. I will say, they are justified in their raving.

That is a chocolate chip cookie, huge and delicious. I split it with JJ, and gave him more than half, but I still had my fair share. I just have no willpower right now, it seems. 🙁

For instance, on Wednesday, my boss came over to my desk and handed me chocolate as he told me about a less-than-desirable project he was assigning to me. I could’ve said no thank you, but I didn’t.

My mom had major surgery last week and my sister, and I have been tag-teaming nursemaid and meal duties, which means I’ve been at her house almost every day. Yesterday when I stopped by on the way home from work, I found that her neighbor had just dropped off a delicious-looking carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. I could’ve avoided it, but…OMG, I love carrot cake. 😮

Thank God I’m still running. That’s about the only bright spot in my health at the moment. :/ It definitely is a bright spot, though; it’s amazing how much better I feel after I run. I’m still doing the weight training twice a week, too, and this week I upped all my weights. I can bench press 52.5 pounds (plus the bar!). Doesn’t sound like much, but when you include the bar–hey, that’s more than half my weight! 🙂

I don’t want to be a total downer, so, here’s my week in pictures:

I ran four miles with Jen and Toddra on Saturday, then another four with just Jen, for a total of eight. That’s the sunrise over the Detroit River as seen from Wyandotte.

That’s the result of my first trip through the drive-thru in about five years! 😮 My mom wanted an iced cappuccino and an egg and cheese biscuit for breakfast Saturday, so I picked it up for her after my run. After pulling into Tim Horton’s, I had to stop for a split second and remind myself how to navigate a drive-thru, ha ha!

That would be Jamie’s THIRD destroyed device in five months (two phones and an iPad, only one of which was insured). I could kill that kid. But he did end the school year with all As, so I will let him live…this week.

This morning’s sunrise, taken during my four-mile run. I actually slept in, thinking I would skip it, since JJ and I have a 5k tomorrow, but I knew I would feel terrible all day if I didn’t do it, so I pulled myself out of bed about 40 minutes late and got it done. It’s amazing how a good workout and a beautiful sunrise can improve your attitude.
