Humidity and Activity

Oh my goodness. If you live anywhere in Midwest  right now, you know that the weather has just been miserable. We’ve been stuck in this warm, humid pattern that just won’t seem to go away.  It started on Sunday and has continued all week. It’s been bad enough that even my best hair products can’t stop my hair from going completely flat as soon as I step out the door in the morning. Man, I hate that. (Ha, I just realized that that’s pretty much a verse from a Shania Twain song!)

Despite the miserable weather, I had a pretty active weekend. OK, it was actually more than just “pretty active.” It was almost bordering on insanely active. Saturday morning, I got up and ran 7 miles with my girlfriends. Saturday wasn’t terrible as far as the humidity goes, but it was definitely a work out. And it’s always great fun to go running with my friends in the morning, and there are almost always great views.

When I got home, I won’t lie: I took a little nap. Why not? For once, we actually had nothing going on

Saturday! I wanted to keep Jamie away from his phone and the Xbox in the afternoon, so I asked him if he wanted to go for a bike ride. He said sure, if he could pick the location. I should’ve been a little less accommodating, but I let him choose where we would bike–and 25 miles later…!!

We ended up biking to a town quite a bit north of us, Gibraltar. They have a Dairy Queen there, so we enjoyed some well-deserved ice cream.

We also biked around and looked at the canals and the waterfront houses.

Jamie was very enthralled with the idea of having a home on the water and a boat in your backyard. I laughed and told him he is welcome to work on that when he leaves home and gets a job.;)

After we finished in Gibraltar, we took a different route toward home. Gibraltar is close to the top of the Lake Erie Metropark, so even though I had just run the exact same path earlier that morning with my girlfriends, I suggested we bike down it to get home, since it was certainly better than dealing with traffic on Jefferson in Wayne County. We didn’t see any deer this time, but we did see a lot of people. Lake Erie Metropark is definitely a popular location for family barbecues and reunions in the summer!

I thought we were just going to head home, but Jamie decided we had to do a “side trek.” But it definitely wasn’t a short one!  There is a state game area on our way home and you can actually bike all the way around it. I was actually doubtful that you truly could bike the whole length of it, but Jamie insisted, so we gave it a try, even though I was pretty exhausted by then since we were at about 18 miles already done. It was a gravel path, which is challenging to bike on, especially when you’re already tired, but I will say that it was beautiful to look at.

Cell phone pictures just don’t do it justice.  I probably would’ve enjoyed the views more had I not been so tired and cranky, but I will say that I hope to go back sometime when I’m less tired so that I can get some sunset pictures, because they will be pretty amazing, I’m sure.

By the time we got home, we hit exactly 25.03 miles!

I was exhausted!  It was nice to have time with Jamie, although I can’t say that the entire bike ride was all mother-son bonding. My kid is definitely a teenager, and he seems to feel that his mom is just too old and slow for his taste. I spent a lot of time with this view.

Sometimes with this view.

He was so far ahead of me, I couldn’t even see him! More than once, I yelled at him to slow down and actually bike ride with me–of course, I had to do it via text, since he couldn’t possibly hear me from as far away as he was!

I actually went to bed about 8:30 that night, right after dinner, and I slept well, let me tell you! I didn’t even eat all my activity points last week, because between the 7-mile run and the 25-mile bike ride, I earned 27 activity points on Saturday alone; I only get 30 in a normal day, ha ha!

I weighed myself on Monday morning, and I really thought that the scale would reflect all that activity, but no such luck.

Dang it. Up a whole pound. The thing is, I don’t feel like I’ve gained weight; I actually feel pretty good. However, I know by the feel of my rings that the humidity is causing me to swell up, like it normally does in the summer, so I’m hopeful that once this weather breaks, my weight will come back down. I sure hope so, because man that was a lot of exercise last week to have gained a pound!

Thanks for reading!

PS:  Sorry it’s so late this week–my laptop died and I had to get a new one. 🙁  I’m still trying to transfer things over and get used to a new machine! 😮

What a wonderful mother/son trip. Even if he left you in the dust for a bunch of it.

Good luck with the new laptop. I hate learning new things!

It has definitely been a learning experience, lol, but I’m getting used to it. It’s heavy as heck, though, ha ha! Thanks for stopping by!
