The Cookie Monster

So, about those cookies

Yeah, they’re gone. I did not, however, eat them all. I shared them with the family, but I certainly did have a few. In addition, I had a steak dinner with the hockey team on Saturday night. It was a fundraiser for the team, and some of my family came to support us, as well:

It was an ugly sweater theme, and I lost. Which I guess kind of is a good thing, because that means I didn’t have the ugliest sweater! 😉 The irony of my Standard offering for any “ugly sweater” event is that it’s a sweater I bought in 2003, with every intent to wear it proudly as a normal article of holiday clothing. See?

Bwahaha, I didn’t realize it until I went looking for pictures of myself that I wore that sweater to every holiday gathering I went to the Christmas that I bought it (2003).  😛  Clearly, I really loved that sweater, but over the years, I’ve discovered that most people don’t feel the same way that I do about it, so it has gained a second life as an “ugly” sweater. In fact, when Jamie’s school had Ugly Sweater Day last Thursday, he wore that same sweater. (Minus the fake fur collar and the snowballs attached the zipper, because that was just too much for him, I guess.)

Jamie’s team had a game right before the dinner, and thankfully, they won!

That’s their first win of the season, and it was long overdue. And of course, it’s always more fun to gather with the team after you win versus after you lose. 🙂

I enjoyed the steak dinner, including a baked potato and salad, but I actually did not have any rolls. I’d like to say it was because I was able to resist temptation, but the truth is, by the time I sat down, all the rolls at my table we’re gone! I come by my bread loving nature naturally, as evidenced by the fact that everyone in my family likes bread as much as I do.;)

Now, I should probably backtrack, to point out that on Saturday morning, I actually went for a 5-mile run. This is not an usual except for the fact that the roads look like this:

Ugh. Running in the snow is hard. I mean, I know it’s my own choice, since I could run on the treadmill in the barn, but that happens to be covered up with a bunch of crap right now, and besides that, I hate that I can never get an accurate pace on the treadmill. So, out on the road I went. It was challenging, because our roads hadn’t been plowed yet, but I did see a friendly face on my way. Actually, I saw two friendly faces: the first was a neighbor that I had first met when I was doing the MAF training back in the spring. He was driving by and stopped to cheer me on for running in the snow, and we chatted a few minutes. He asked me how my running was going, and complimented me on sticking with it, and then he invited me to a 5K on New Year’s Day. I love my neighbors, but running neighbors are the best!

The other friendly face I saw was this one:

A plow! (And its driver!)  He only ended up plowing maybe a half mile total of my route, but it was better than nothing!

Sunday morning, I had to get the kids to church for the Christmas program. I was so proud of my kids! Jamie was Joseph, and JJ was King Herod:

Aren’t they adorable!?  Meanwhile, my friend Renee caught me before we left to give me a bag of homemade cookies for Christmas.  Not that I needed more cookies, but they were really good! Thankfully, it was a small bag, and the kids and I were able to share it.

Afterwards, we had to headed down to Ohio for a hockey game. We were playing against the number one team in our division, and I am very excited to tell you that they won!

JJ’s team had been in kind of a slump lately, so this was a much-needed boost of confidence for them.  Meanwhile, as I was packing up my gear, one of the moms on the team came up to me.  She and her family (especially her mom and dad) just love the pictures and posters I’ve done for the team over the last few years, and they have always been so appreciative.  Her dad even friended me on Facebook so he could see all my pictures, ha ha!

When she came up to me, she said, “I have something for you,” and she was holding a small square box that looked like a pizza box. She knows I don’t care for pizza, so I was really curious what she was bringing me.  And then she opened the box…

Holy calorie-fest, Batman!  In case you can’t tell from the picture, those cookies are huge!  And they were warm!  It turns out there is a shop called “The Cookie Jar” in this Ohio town where they sell these gigantic, awesome cookies. Even  though I was totally overloaded on cookies by that point in the week, I wasn’t about to turn them down. It was such a nice, thoughtful gesture…I was really humbled that they wanted to get me a Christmas gift.  And besides–they were amazingly good!!  The kids and I each had one, then JJ and I split another one when I got home.  My husband had one before he went to work, which left one more.  To avoid the temptation, I froze that one for later.  I was pretty damn proud of myself for having the willpower to put it away for later! 😉

With all those cookies in such a short span of time, my weigh-in shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

Or maybe it should—I certainly could have gained, right?  I can’t deny that I’m bummed to be going into Christmas still 6 pounds over my goal. But I do try to keep telling myself that I’m still in a much better place than I was for pretty much every Christmas I’ve had in my life before 2012. 🙂

And now I must get my Christmas cards done!!  Thanks so much for reading!

I love running in fresh fallen snow. After it’s packed down and crap boo to that nonsense. But, right as it is falling or right after is A+. Good for you for getting out in it!

    and those cookies…yum!
