It’s Time for Some Hockey Pictures

It has been waaaay too long since I posted some hockey pictures. So, here I am, posting some hockey pictures!

My oldest son’s team had a game on Wednesday that was just a heart-pounder. The other team has been us pretty soundly in the past, and we knew it would be a challenge for sure. They came out strong, as expected, and scored 2 goals on us in the first. However, by the end of the 2nd, we had come back and tied it 2-2. There was hope!

The third period was one of the most exciting games I’ve had a chance to witness in all my years of youth hockey. They scored early, so it was 3-2. A while later, we scored, tied 3-3. Then they scored AGAIN, so it was 4-3 with about 5 minutes left in the game. I began to resign myself to the fact that we were not going to beat this team, but I was okay with that because our boys were playing very well and were certainly keeping up with them.

Then, with about 4 minutes left, we scored again! All four goals had actually been scored by the same kid–so he had a hat trick plus one! And it wasn’t as if he was on breakaways and being super-speed skater, although he did that a couple times. The other two times, though, it was him and his teammates in front of the net, shooting and shooting until finally, he was the one to get it in. Just like they’re supposed to!

At this point, I was feeling excited…I would take a tie against this team! But then, with a little over 3 minutes left…one of our other kids got a breakaway, and he is as quick as lightning and has moves like Jagger. 😉 Down the ice he goes, deeks one defenseman, deeks the other, takes the shot–SCORE! I was jumping up and down screaming by this point–it was awesome!!

What followed was the most stressful and nerve-wracking 3 and a half minutes of my life, lol! It was crazy, but the boys did it…they gave it everything they had and held on to beat the other team 5-4! It was truly a great game on both sides, and we were SO proud of our boys for not giving up. That’s actually something we say about them a lot–they never quit!

So, after all that, I’d like to share some pictures from the game. Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to make the rounds of the hockey moms on the team to request their permission to post their kids pictures on my site, so I don’t have some of the really good ones, but I do have a few that I think are pretty decent.

One of our two goalies, stopping another shot.

This is one of our little guys who has big attitude! I love to watch him hustle past defensemen.

Another of our hard-working forwards…get that puck, no matter where it is, lol!

Our other goalie, who is big as life in his net!

I love this shot showing all the action in front of the net.  This is how you score goals!

#19 hustles toward the net, undaunted by the defensemen in his path!

This is my awesome defenseman, getting ready to send the puck down to a foward.

And, because he’s my kid, I can post two pictures of him. 😉  I can’t help it…he is playing so well, and he was just on fire on Wednesday night (even got a penalty for his efforts, lol!).  It’s hard NOT to take pictures of him. 🙂

One of the things I love about hockey photography is managing to get a shot that requires no explanation. 🙂

Another shot that I love, because it speaks for itself.  I blurred some of the faces since I haven’t gotten permission for these kids yet, but I think you can get the point despite that. 🙂

Okay, this one is obviously not from Wednesday’s game, but I recently asked this kid’s mom if I could post his pictures on my site, and she agreed.  This is actually my favorite of all the composites I did for the kids.  His expression is just so awesome…you can tell this guy is going to break heart’s some day. 😉

And finally, I can’t let DS#1 have all the glory.  DS#2 is doing so well on his team, as well.  He is playing up with kids 1 to 2 years older than him, and he just loves it!  He is so focused and so excited to play hockey every day.  Here’s an extraneous shot of him.

That’s it for today!  Thank you so much for reading, and for letting me share my passion for hockey photography!

Wow! That was a nail-biter. Way to go, DS#1. And go to get a report on DS#2. Sounds like they are both having fun and working hard. High fives to both of them.

Sorry I missed this earlier! I use a Canon 70-300 mm f4-5.6 lens. My next lens will be a 2.8 though…I need something faster for the crappy hockey arena lighting! 🙂

      Thanks for reading!
