Just Another Fun Hockey Weekend

Oh, just more hockey and the navigation of it, that’s what we got goin’ on up in here. 😉

First off, Saturday morning, I didn’t have to be anywhere (shock!), so I decided to pull out a longer run than I’ve done in a while: 8 miles. Not really a “long” run, if you compare it to what I was doing last year, but still longer than how far the average person runs, right? ;)This one was way tougher than I expected. I slept in a little, so didn’t get out on the road until almost 8:30, and I was surprised to find that the winds were fairly strong in the 14 mph range, coming from the SSW. It was warmer than it had been, and I wore a short sleeve shirt, and just my light gloves and headband.

I had planned on doing 8 in a loop, which actually means doing more like 8.25, but the more I ran into that wind, the less enthusiastic I was. I wasn’t even sure I was going to make seven or even six, but I forced myself to get to 4 miles, and then I turned around and stopped, stopping my watch even, because I was just so tired. I took the opportunity to snap a picture of the incredibly blue sky.

After a short rest, I continued on, stopping to take a couple more pictures along the way. The ice that was along the banks of the creek was rather picturesque.IMG_8472I did better on the way back, thanks to the wind at my back, but I was definitely tired. But hey, at least I finished!IMG_8474FullSizeRenderI was surprised to find that even my legs were sore by the time I was done. It’s hard to believe running 8 miles could do that much damage to me, when that would’ve been a “short” run last year at this time!

So then, of course, there was hockey. I’ve mentioned that JJ’s team struggled for pretty much the entire season, only winning a few games. Then they shocked us all by going to Pittsburgh and winning a tournament. Then, they came back from Pittsburgh and one their two first two playoff games. (Playoffs are like a second season; they seed teams according to how they fared in the regular season, so the idea is that you’ll play against teams you’re competitive with to vie for a championship.)vThen, they played in a local tournament and took home a second-place trophy, coming in in runner-up to a good Canadian team.

On Saturday, they had their third playoff game.  It was a true nail-biter, but our boys won, 2-1.

Yay!  After that, I spent the evening working on the eighth grade project for our school auction. It has indeed been a “project,” and it revolves almost exclusively around pictures. So I’m sure it shocks you that I volunteered for it. 😉 each kid got to put together 82-page layout of a digital scrapbook, but because I couldn’t have them all work on the same book, they had to do them separately, and I then had to re-create every layout.  😮 It has been a ton of work, but I’ve really enjoyed going through all the pictures of the kids in Jamie’s class through their first 13 or 14 years of life. For teenagers, they really surprise me with the amount of thought and care they put into designing their personal layout.

I actually ended up working on it Sunday on the way to JJ’s hockey game in Bay City. A good portion of the team ended up taking a bus up there, because it’s 82-hour Drive, and it was just easier. Of course, the kids had a blast, and the parents, well…the parents on that team really know how to party. 😉

Ha ha!  That’s a very spicy bloody Mary that I was served just after 9am. Too spicy, unfortunately, and that led to a problem: I still had all of what you see in that cup leftover, but there was nowhere for me to throw it away on the bus, and no cupholders…so I had to quietly hold onto that cup for 2 hours while working on the scrapbook project with my free hand.  😛

The boys won the game, which was pretty awesome! Unfortunately, we had a little bit of miscommunication about the trip back. I assumed we would head straight back home after the game, but everyone seem to want to go out to dinner. :/ We stopped at one local brewery, but found that it was not kid-friendly. Then we stopped at another one, and they pretty much refuse to serve us because our group is so large. Oy. By this time, I was getting panicked, because I have a lot of work left to do on the project, as well as things to do at home, and i’d already lost an hour.

Thankfully, they decided after the second denial of service that they would just head back and eat closer to home. I was pretty stressed for a while, though, and I can’t deny that my eating suffered for it for the remainder of the evening. I went over my calories by almost 200 Sunday night. 🙁

I did finally get the book done, but I ended up going to bed late because of it. When I woke up from my usual Monday morning run, I lacked enthusiasm. Normally, I make Monday “pace run” day, since the previous day had been a day of rest. But I just didn’t have it in me on Monday, so I ran at a moderate pace, about a 10:29.  I’ve certainly had worse runs, but I was disappointed in myself for not being able to get it done the way I normally would. But I know that everybody has bad days, and at least I got out there, right?

On the bright side, I did see this after my run…

Hooray!  I managed to lose 1.4 pounds this week, putting me back down below 120. I was pretty happy about that. 🙂

Then, when I got to work, I got an email informing me of some even more exciting news:  because JJ’s team had won all four of their first-round playoff games, they were granted a bye for the second round and are now headed directly to the final!!  I was shocked!  These little guys who had struggled so much all season long were headed to the championship!

So yeah…lot’s ‘o hockey going on.  😉

That’s it for now. Thanks for reading!

Congrats to JJ’s team, that is awesome!

I can just imagine you sitting there holding your cup. Was there no bathroom on the bus? Man, I would’ve made the driver dump it out his or her window. You’re a better person than me lol
