Weight Check-Up

I mentioned in my last post that I’d had a really, really busy week and weekend last week.  Jamie’s lacrosse came on full-force, because they had to get ready for a game just 5 days after practices began, so I was driving him back and forth to practice every day except Wednesday (when he had to skip lacrosse to go to the high school “futures skate”).  That was a lot of time sitting around, waiting for practice to finish!

JJ had to come with me each day because of my husband’s work schedule, and while we were sitting in the car on Tuesday, I was going through my emails and saw an email for the Belleville Strawberry Run on June 17th.  I mentioned it to JJ and asked if he’d want to run it with me, since you get a cool strawberry medal, and, I figured, some strawberries. (The kid loves strawberries.)  He agreed, and then I dropped the bomb…I asked if he’d run the 8k.  He asked me how far it was, and I told it about 4.8 miles, so 1.8 miles longer than his longest run.  He was quiet for a minute and then said, “Ok.”  And just like that, we were training for an 8k!! 🙂

Wednesday was the hockey day, so no lacrosse.  Thursday was St. Patrick’s Day, and I made sure to work my Irish (not much, but about 1/4).

I bought that Run Detroit shirt last year at the Corktown Race, and I just love it. You can’t deny that the green goes awfully well with the red hair. 😉

When I got home from work, I told JJ to dress in comfy clothes so we could do our first training run while Jamie played lacrosse, and although he seemed a bit unenthusiastic, he agreed.  After dropping Jamie off, we went to Belleville’s “downtown” and did our first run!

He did so well!  He ended up with a 10:11 pace for a little over a mile, and that included stopping to tie his shoe!  I was really proud of him. And he was super-excited to do his first-ever post-run selfie with his new iPod that he got for his birthday.

Is that not just adorable? 😉

On Saturday, Jamie had his first game at U-M (mentioned in yesterday’s post), but although we had to be there at 8am, I was determined to get a six-mile run in.  I got up at 4:30am and was out the door by 4:59 (OMG that’s early!), and I did it!  I actually did 6.5 miles, to make sure I got to 600 calories burned. 😉  The game was fun, and I enjoyed a “real” big breakfast afterwards while we waited for the college game to start…a veggie omelete, hash browns and toast.  I do love breakfast food! 🙂  But I was mindful and didn’t eat everything on my plate.

Despite working hard to get my run in and be careful what I ate, I was still shocked to see what the scale said on Monday:

Woo hoo!  That’s the first time I’ve been below 119 in almost two years!  It’s a pretty great feeling.  I’ve been working hard on the calorie counting, and trying to balance out my eating and my running, and I’m happy to see it paying off!

That’s it for now–must get up early for Easter sunrise service.  I hope you have a blessed day tomorrow–He Is (almost!) Risen! 🙂
