Cookies for a Cause

Saturday morning, I ran 6 miles, which was my first “long” run since my half marathon last week.  I was originally going to run 5, but then I starting playing the “numbers game,” which includes shooting for a specific total time of running, and a specific calorie goal, and then being close enough to the next “whole mile” to finish it off.  😛  I don’t know why I play those games with myself, but the good news is that it was a good run (despite the cold wind), and I burned plenty of calories.

Later in the day, I took Jamie to a local church to volunteer to help decorate cookies for a church fundraiser (which also benefitted his lacrosse team).  I was a bit worried about helping out with a cookie decorating fundraiser…if you know me, you know why. 😮  But…the good news is, they were making anise cookies…and I hate anise. 😛  So it was no trouble for me to avoid snacking on them. I don’t know that I could say the same for Jamie, but they did offer up the broken ones to all the kids, so he wasn’t taking money away from the church in eating them. 😉 It was a fun event, and the 10 boys who attended did a great job and were complimented by the church ladies who ran it.

One downside (for me) is that my clothes smelled like anise for the rest of the day, and I actually had to wash my jacket to get the odor out.  The woman in charge said that they do both almond cookies and anise, but our day to volunteer happened to be “anise day.”  I asked them if they split them equally, and she surprised me by saying that they actually get about 3/4 of their orders for anise, and only 1/4 for almond.  I had no idea anise cookies were so popular!  So that makes me curious…of the folks who read my blog, I’d be interested to know if you are “yay” or “nay” on anise flavor?

After the cookies came a party for my brother-in-law’s 50th birthday. My sister made him a cake.

Before you comment on how mean my sister is (don’t worry, I did, too!), I will tell you that my brother-in-law was the one who suggested it. 😛  They had pizza and an antipasto salad for dinner, but I skipped it in favor of a nice chicken salad.

You know a salad is big when it comes with tongs! 😉  I only ate about half, and it was good.  With my miles earlier in the day, I was even able to splurge on a full-size piece of the cake.  It was sugar free (requested by my BIL) and actually really good!  Our family had a good time and my brother-in-law seemed pleased to have a party in his honor.

On Saturday we had…wait for it…another lacrosse game! 🙂  Yes, we are doing a lot of lacrosse lately, but at least this one was on a beautiful day.

The boys played at the University of Detroit-Mercy in the city of Detroit, and although they got beat pretty badly, it was a great experience.  And they did finally score a goal! 😛

I worked hard to stay within my points all last week to make up for my post-race gain (plus my gain from the week before).  I feel like I ate intelligently and I made sure to get right back to running after a few days off (which wasn’t hard–I actually missed it after a couple of days off!).  When I stepped on the scale Monday morning, i was pretty sure I would have a loss (I was sure my 2.4 pound gain last week was mostly water weight).  And I was right…

But even I didn’t expect to lose that much! 😮  I weighed myself three times, and even weighed myself holding some books to “reset” the scale before weighing the third time.  Needless to say, I’m thrilled to be back down to the 122-ish range. 🙂  I hope it lasts!  I almost hopped on the scale this morning to see if yesterday’s weight was a fluke, but I’ve mentioned before that I promised myself I would only weigh once a week, so I didn’t.

We have an early Easter celebration with my husband’s family on Saturday due to my sister-in-law’s work schedule, but I’m really determined to stick to the plan so I don’t gain back the weight I lost this week.  I know I can do it…I just have to follow through!

Thanks so much for reading!

    Wowza what a loss!

Good for Jamie for volunteering. And good for you for not eating any. Anise is gross. I agree with you on that one!
